Léonard Fonjamy (dit Vadeboncoeur) 300 years – A Family in the Making

Born in Van Buren, Maine, where he did his formal education. After high school graduation, he attended Husson College in Bangor, Maine. He served three years in U.S. Army where he was stationed at the Headquarters of the United States European Command outside Paris, France. After the army, he attended and graduated from the Fort Kent State College of the University of Maine. He moved to Canada in 1968 with his Canadian wife, Bernadette Lang, and continued further comparative studies at the Ottawa University. His major area of studies consisted of American, Canadian, English and French History and Literature. In 1975, he became a Canadian citizen after their two sons, Paolo and Mark, were born. He lived in Bathurst for 32 years and worked at the École Secondaire Népisiguit as the chairperson of the département d’Anglais langue seconde. He was a member of the Provincial Curriculum Committee for many years. In 1996, he was awarded the provincial award Prix d’excellence dans l’enseignement. He retired in 2001. In the community, he served on many committees, civic and church. He served as President of the Népisiguit Centennial Library for 18 years. His life project is the ancestral history and genealogy of his roots.
